A Guide to Clean Mold from Air Conditioners Safely
Costly air conditioner servicing is commonly caused by mold in the home. On the other hand, it could lead to some serious health issues later. Fortunately, you can prevent the costly service and health issues by cleaning mold from your air conditioner on your own. However, you might need to prepare several items in the first place to keep it safe. You need:

  • Gloves;
  • Face mask;
  • Protective eyewear;
  • Water;
  • Bleach;
  • Laundry soap;
  • Mild dish soap;
  • Cloth and scrub brush;
  • 5-gallon bucket;
  • Screwdriver;
  • And a vacuum cleaner.

All things we will mention below should be done in an area with good ventilation. If necessary, you can put it outside your house. First thing first, you should put on your safety gear such as gloves, eyewear, and mask. Unplug the unit and turn off the air conditioner before you unplug it from the power source.
Take off the body grill by using a screwdriver. Check the filter inside the front grille. Some of them are disposable and some of them are washable. If the filter is washable you can sprinkle some laundry detergent on it and put it in your sink and soak it with hot water for 15 minutes.
After that, you can use a scrub brush to clean the filter. While you wait for the filter dried, you can clean the inside part of the AC by using a vacuum and do not forget to wipe any visible mold growth. Mix 3 gallons of hot water, 1 tbsp. or mild dish soap, and ½ cup of bleach to clean the moldy area inside your unit. 
Let the solution sits for 10 minutes before wiping it by using a damp cloth. Once everything is perfectly dry, resemble the unit and operate it normally. This is how you prevent a costly air conditioner servicing.
